National Apprenticeship Week 2022

With National Apprenticeship Week running from 7th-13th February, we are celebrating the successes and achievements of our apprentices.

Stephen Spark and Ryan Houghton are both currently undertaking a NVQ Level 3 apprenticeship as Thermal Insulation Technicians with Taziker.  As part of their programme, they will be learning thermal insulation application, sheet metal fabrication and sheet metal fitting in our Industrial Services division.  They will carry out their learning with a mixture of on-site training and two-week trips to the national training centre in Darlington every 12 weeks.

We caught up with Stephen and Ryan to find out about their journey so far.

“Since the start of my apprenticeship with Taziker I have been greeted with open arms by everyone within the company.  Since the first day, all colleagues and management have made sure that I’m OK and comfortable with everything - and went out of their way to do so.

Looking ahead to the next year of my apprenticeship I am hoping that it continues, and I’m fully focused on learning more about the different materials and applications involved within my trade.  To summarise, I feel I am in the best place to learn and complete my qualification.  I see a bright future for myself here at Taziker!”

“I have enjoyed the first year of my apprenticeship here at Taziker.  Having the chance to work in a team with experienced Thermal Insulation Engineers has been a great base - giving me the skillset which I am improving on, and learning new skills daily.

The change in career has been brilliant and I have been fully supported by the Taziker management in every aspect - especially in providing any training outside of any I’m currently undertaking during my apprenticeship.

I am looking forward to completing my advanced craft Level 3 qualification and gaining the experience to hopefully pass on to another generation of apprentices, like I have been shown and supported during mine so far.”

Barry Tremaco, Insulation Manager, has really positive things to say about Stephen and Ryan.

“Both Stephen and Ryan are a credit to our company and have applied themselves in an exemplary manner throughout their time at Taziker.  We as a company are committed to providing them both with every opportunity to become the best they can be in skill level and qualifications, by providing them with excellent facilities and opportunities to excel.

"Taziker are committed to providing our industry with the highest quality of tradesperson in the present and have the foresight to build up the tradespeople of the future.”

Michelle Hodgetts started her role as Divisional Buyer at Taziker in March 2021 and decided to undertake an apprenticeship alongside her role to enhance her skills further.  She is completing an apprenticeship in Commercial Procurement and Supply level 4.

“Since I started my studies last September, everyone at Taziker and study school has been so supportive to my learning needs and given me continuous encouragement.  Not having studied for 30 years, I was very nervous to pursue my diploma through the apprenticeship scheme, but soon the fears went and six months down the line I already feel more confident in my development.

I’m fully focused to achieve my Diploma and work towards my Chartered qualification - Thank you Taziker.”

We currently have eight apprentices working and studying at Taziker in various different roles and environments.  If you would like to explore a career within the engineering industry, and you think an apprenticeship would be a good fit for you, please do get in touch with careers@taziker.com providing an up to date covering letter and CV.
