Group Principal Engineer

We are seeking a talented and experienced Group Principal Engineer to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business offering independent workload and development opportunity.

Taziker is a leading multi-disciplinary engineering contractor specialising in undertaking key maintenance, refurbishment and replacement works to critical UK infrastructure. Employing around 370 people, we operate across the UK supported by a Support Services office in Lancashire.

The individual will lead the delivery of the Civil Engineering Compliance services across the business through effective operational management, in partnership with stakeholders including; Clients, Management, Employees, Sub-Contractors, Supply Chain and other Engineering Disciplines.

Oversee the provision of Civil Engineering Technical support from Project inception through award to closure, ensuring that Projects are delivered to specification.

This role will include hybrid working office based at either our Chorley or Blackburn office with an expectation of site visits when required. Working 40 hours per week, Mon - Fri.

This position comes with a competitive salary and car allowance.

Responsibilities Include:

Business Growth

  • Participate as part of Tender Reviews and support other team members in solving strategic problems to ensure client satisfaction and repeat business from long term customers.
  • Work closely with the pre-construction team to ensure timely delivery of complex tender services.
  • Coordinate with the Regional Delivery Teams for the allocation of appointed persons on projects for lifting operations.
  • Allocate adequate and appropriate & appropriate engineering resources to projects to set them up for success from the outset.

Client Relationship Management:

Manage the relationship with key players in the supply chain to ensure that temporary works designs are available at the right time and at the right price to achieve overall project objectives/margins.

Strategy:

  • Monitor industry changes and ensure the company is at the forefront of innovation and best practice.
  • Provide engineering feedback on the quality of sub-contract work to continuously improve the list of preferred suppliers.
  • Undertake engineering audits across projects to ensure compliance and quality with company/industry standards.
  • Responsibility for the allocation of temporary works coordinators across the business.

Leadership:

  • Clearly communicating the applicable standards & legislation to the successful delivery of each project.
  • Technical Leadership that inspires and motivates your Project teams.
  • Active management of your Technical reports (CEM/CRE/DI/TWC/TWS) including resource planning, recruitment, induction, training, retention, succession planning and performance management.
  • The Principal Civil Engineer regularly reviews the performance of those who report to them following formal appointment by reviewing Technical Compliance on a project by project basis.
  • Additionally, they provide coaching, including soft skills and technical training, for the purpose of assisting employees in improving their performance and delivery for the regional and wider business.
  • Develop and maintain high standards adhering to company policies.
  • Direct Project teams and colleagues to meet the company’s strategic needs.
  • Ensure the effective cascade of information to the Project Team.

Budgets / Finances

  • Whilst the Principal Civil Engineer is not expected to directly provide either commercial input or manage budgets / finance, they should be aware that their decisions without the relevant approvals can have a significant effect on a project return. To this end any change is to be notified to the Regional Delivery team to enable such a change to be processed in the correct manor.

Delivery

  • Continuous review of each project’s delivery team for competence appointments to ensure company and client’s requirements are delivered.
  • Ensure governance is met throughout the business processes and adherence to safety and company processes.
  • Attend and play active role in Monthly Operations meeting at Head Office, reporting on performance of your department, lessons learnt, best practice etc.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications/Certificates

  • Full UK Driving License
  • CSCS
  • Chartered Engineer
  • Railway Personal Track Safety
  • SMSTS
  • Temp Works Delegated Individual and/or Co-ordinator


Essential Knowledge/Experience

  • Minimum 10 years experience in: Construction or Civil Engineering, design management, temporary works and as a Construction CEM/CRE
  • Up to date knowledge of industry standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • A team player who also works well independently.
  • Organised and self-motivated, with the ability to manage own workload effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Project.
